I went to Parkview High School in Lilburn, GA. While I was a pretty decent player, I wasn't
able to make my high school team until my junior year. My freshman year, I was cut from tryouts
after a couple of days and then I was one of the last two cuts my sophomore
year. I kept at it, though and worked my
way onto the team as a substitute my junior year. I remember my first match pretty well. We were at Heritage High School. They didn't have a particularly good
team. We were good, so most teams
were not so good by comparison. My dad
took off of work and came to the match even though I wasn't scheduled to
play. When our #3 singles player injured
his ankle during warm up, Coach Green came over to me and told me I was
playing. I remember asking, "Are
you kidding"? I'm glad he wasn't as
that would have been pretty mean. I was
nervous. I don't think Coach was,
though. Even if I lost, we were going to
win the match 4-1 instead of 5-0. I got
down early in the match 5-1, and surprisingly hadn't begun to
self-destruct. I managed to put together
a game plan that centered around hitting more balls in the court and came back
to win the 1st set in a tie breaker and then won the 2nd set 6-1. The next day on the announcements at school
they played a video clip of my match and Coach gave me the "Big Dawg"
award for stepping in for the injured player and winning the match. Of all of the points of the match that could
have been shown to the entire school, roughly 2,000 people got to see me double
fault during the 1st set tie breaker.
Nice!

My Tennistory Part One
My tennistory mainly begins when I was 13 or 14 years old. As a very small child I was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan. I lived in Columbia, MO and was able to listen to the radio broadcasts at my house in the evenings. There was no MLB Extra Innings package on the satellite dish back then, so I really only got to watch a few games on TV per season. Being the huge baseball fan that I was, naturally, my career aspiration was to be a major league baseball player. I played a lot of baseball with the kids in the neighborhood and played my first season of organized baseball as a 12 year old in Columbia, MO. We moved to Lilburn, GA in 1989 when my dad changed jobs. It was shortly after this that I realized that my future was not in baseball. The other boys in the league aided me in arriving at this conclusion. I played Pony League ball as a 13 and 14 year old, but it was becoming as obvious as a swing and a miss that I was not going to be able to make the high school baseball team. I did want to play a high school sport, however. Knowing that my dad used to play tennis, I asked him to teach me.

If only there was another way...
Check this video out. I find this very funny! "You could learn to play left handed like Rafa...vamos Rafa". That's good stuff! (I had some trouble in Chrome, but it opened fine in the other browsers that I tried.)

What's new? Well, I'm glad you asked...
Big Fish Tennis has been West Georgia's own league since it was created back in early 2010. Not so, anymore! We're branching out to nearby Cobb County, GA. This doesn't affect our fish in West Georgia, though. The two ponds will be separate and will not require fish from West Georgia to travel to Cobb (or vise versa). Here is a list of great things to look forward to in 2013...

Big Fish Tennis - New League Logo!
Hey, Fish! When Big Fish Tennis began offering leagues in West Georgia back in February of 2010,
we had a logo developed to represent the league. We've heard many compliments about that logo and agree that it is a fine logo. However, looking toward the future of Big Fish Tennis and expanding to other areas, we decided to update the logo and go with a cleaner version to go forward. I hope you all agree that this logo is indeed an upgrade and I expect it will serve us well.

Cats Don't Like Tennis
Okay. I don’t dislike cats. I have had four in my adult
years, but they don’t take to tennis like dogs do.
Dogs almost innately get excited about any tennis ball in
their vicinity. Of course, if the tennis ball is moving, it becomes quite a bit
more interesting. Dogs seem to go well with tennis balls.
One may throw another round object near their favorite Labrador
Retriever and he or she may simply glance up at you as if you thought you just
discovered dirt. But, if you toss a tennis ball, then it is game on.
